Deltog i Första Världskriget 1914-18. Inskrevs i engelska armén 1914 och 10th
Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. Löjtnant där
25/9 1914. Kapten ?/12 1914. Förlagd i England där han utbildade rekryter.
Förflyttades till franska fronten (Somme) 16/9 1916. Insjuknade i den s k
skyttegravsfebern ?/2 1917. Sjukläger i England. Åter till fronten ?/5 1917.
Deltog bl a vid striderna vid S:t Quentin. Sårad 31/8 1917,
en kula gick in mellan båda benen och genom rockskörtet, två andra kulor
genomborrade hans högra arm, kikaren som han höll framför sina ögon blev
bortskjuten och kulsprutan som stod framför honom blev bara skrot, han fick
också en del granatskärvor i benen. Major vid regementet 2/9 1917.
Överstelöjtnant ?/12 1918.
Deltog i den s k "Arkangelsoperationen 1919. Förlagd till Vaga-Dvina fronten i norra Ryssland för att bekämpa bolsjeviker
